Preparing for the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam might initially seem intimidating. It's a challenging test, but with the correct materials and a solid strategy, it's definitely possible to ace it. Having personally navigated through this journey successfully, I am keen to share my experience and provide insights to aspiring PMP candidates.
My path to success included specific resources, such as study guides and online tutorials, which proved to be immensely helpful. I adopted a systematic approach, breaking down complex topics into manageable parts, and consistently reviewing and practicing until I was confident. Furthermore, regular self-assessments were crucial to keep track of my progress.
Sharing this could help others streamline their process, improve understanding, and build the necessary confidence. I believe my insights could be valuable in conquering this tough but achievable exam, turning an overwhelming task into a feasible goal.
Step 1: Filled the PMP Application
The first step is to fill in the PMP application form. This can be a tedious process, but it is essential to ensure you meet the requirements and eligibility criteria. Once your application is approved, you can proceed with the preparation process.
Step 2: Joined a Boot Camp
To further my knowledge, I joined a PMP Boot Camp. The Boot Camp helped me demystify the biggest myths of the PMP exam, provided an overview of how to start, and helped me master Agile concepts. The Boot Camp was structured, and I received a video every day, which made it easy to follow.
After completing the Boot Camp, I enrolled in a PMP Exam Mastery Course. This course was comprehensive and taught me how to get started with the PMP Exam journey, how to correctly answer exam questions, and master the most fundamental concepts of Agile. This course helped me to learn new concepts and expand my knowledge base.
Step 4: Used Prepcast PMP Exam Simulator
Additionally, I used Prepcast PMP Exam Simulator, which is a must-have PMP Exam Simulator that I recommend to anyone taking the PMP Exam. The Simulator provided me with over 2,000 PMP Exam questions, which helped me to understand the type of questions that would be asked in the exam. Using the Simulator helped me to prepare for the exam and build my confidence.
Step 5: Watched David McLachlan 200 AGILE PMP & 150 PMBOK Exam Questions and Answers
Finally, I watched the following YouTube Videos to prepare for the PMP exam: 200 PMP Agile Questions with Answers, perfect for PMP, CAPM, or ACP exams, and 150 Scenario-based PMP Questions and Answers. These resources were ideal for passing the PMP exam and learning the PMBOK 7th edition effortlessly.
Reading Recommendations: To pass your PMP Exam, I suggest using the books that I personally used to pass my own exam.
The book Essential Scrum provides an in-depth understanding of Scrum and the Agile Framework, which is crucial since Agile covers over 50% of the PMP Exam. It is recommended that you skim the most important areas of the book to gain a better understanding of Scrum.
The Agile Guide is an excellent and easy-to-read resource that will aid you in better understanding the Agile Framework. I read it cover-to-cover at least two times and highly recommend that you grab a copy to become familiar with the high-level concepts covered in this guide.
The PMBOK Guide, 6th Edition, outlines the Predictive Approach and the different Processes Knowledge Areas associated with the waterfall approach.
Lastly, use the PMBOK 7th Edition as a reference guide only. If there are any terms you are unsure of, look them up in the PMBOK Guide.
Passing the PMP exam requires a deliberate approach and the use of appropriate resources, it took two months for me to fully prepare. The steps I took to prepare and pass the exam worked for me, and I would highly recommend them to anyone preparing for the PMP exam. With dedication and effort, anyone can pass the PMP exam and earn their certification. The sense of accomplishment you will experience after successful completion is truly rewarding.
